Local Economic Development
Build local economies that produce, trade and create opportunity.
Why this programme matters
Townships and rural wards must become centers of production rather than merely zones of consumption. Mayibuye proposes designated trading infrastructure, cold storage for informal traders, legal municipal permit support, and local procurement quotas for township bakeries, brickmakers, garment producers, and maintenance artisans.
Three principal commitments
Develop ward economic plans connecting skills, resources, demand and employment opportunities.
Support small businesses, informal traders and cooperatives with practical infrastructure and market access.
Localise procurement where lawful and practical, strengthen local production and develop productive economic hubs.
Implementation and governance standards
These commitments represent proposed municipal programmes under the Afrika Mayibuye Movement 2026 Local Government Manifesto. All infrastructure expansion, appointments, insourcing, and land releases will be conducted in full compliance with lawful municipal procurement statutes, intergovernmental financial standards, and environmental regulations.
