The councillor compact · Manifesto pages 89–102
No representation without accountability.
The manifesto commits Mayibuye councillors to remain accessible, report to residents, keep records, protect public resources and serve every resident fairly. This is a public-service commitment, not a live government dashboard.
No representation without accountability.
Public office is a sacred trust. Mayibuye councillors commit to a compact that binds them to the residents they serve. The manifesto sets out this accountability principle across pages 89 to 102, and the President's launch address reinforces it on pages 45 to 48.
This is a proposed standard of conduct for elected representatives. It is not a claim that a reporting system or municipal dashboard is already operating.
What the compact requires
Six commitments to residents.
Accessible representatives
Mayibuye councillors commit to remain reachable to residents, holding regular ward meetings and being available to the communities they serve.
Regular reporting
Councillors report back to residents on decisions taken, budgets allocated and progress on service delivery, so that public office remains transparent.
Recorded enquiries and follow-up
Resident enquiries are recorded and followed up. A clear trail of correspondence helps ensure that concerns are not lost or ignored.
Ethical conduct
Councillors uphold ethical conduct in public office, avoiding conflicts of interest and personal enrichment through the responsibilities entrusted to them.
Protection of public resources
Public resources are protected from corruption, waste and private capture. Councillors defend the assets and finances that belong to the community.
Fair service to all residents
Every resident is served fairly, without favour or discrimination. Public office is a trust held for all, not a privilege for a few.
